Hippolyte Bellangé (1800-1866) Hippolyte Bellangé is a 19th century French painter and lithographer, trained in the workshop of Antoine-Jean Gros. A versatile artist, he shines as well in history painting as in genre scenes, portraits or animated compositions. His sense of drawing, the liveliness of his compositions and the quality of his lithographs earned him early recognition: he exhibited at the Salon in 1824 and received several official awards during his career. Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1834, Bellangé left behind a varied work which reflects the romantic aesthetic and the 19th century taste for visual stories and the expression of movement.
