Vintage Brass Buttonhole Gauge & Cutter

Antique collectible buttonhole gauge and cutter, circa late 1800’s early 1900’s. It is brass with a retractable steel blade. This tool was used by dressmakers to gauge the size of a buttonhole and then cut it open using the sharp edge. There are faint numbers 1-10 on the gauge for measuring. It is marked "D.M. CO. PAT. SEPT 3, 72 BPT. CONN". (Patented in 1872) 3.5 inches long, about 5.5 inches when blade is extended.
