Vintage Elongated Zulu Shield

Vintage elongated antique finish carved wood Zulu shield. Traditional South African Zulu shields date back to King Shaka Zulu and were used by tribesmen in battle for hundreds of years. In more recent times, they are no longer used in battle but are used in traditional Zulu ceremonies, such as weddings, and in telling stories of ancestors. These carved wood designs painted in contrasting black and white patterns have a striking modern form and are quite impactful, especially when displayed in groupings. Each shield will vary due to unique hand carvings and signs of age/use. Comes with hook attached on back for hanging on wall.
